Advice For Our Future 6th Graders

For all you fifth graders out there about to become a Middle School student, there are many things you will need to know. I want you to have the best year possible so listen up to all the advice I’m about to give you!

LUNCH
~The lunch tables are always jammed packed, so it can be hard to get a seat. Everyone wants to sit with everyone, and that’s why you need a buddy. If the table gets too full and there’s no space for you at all, you and your buddy will have each other. Being a loner with a buddy is always better!

LOCKER ROOM
~The sixth graders always get the tiny, crammed locker room with no space. It always smells like BO and is very stuffy. Shower if you want, but go change in the big locker room with mirrors when your done so you won’t be crowded by everyone else.

BACKPACK
~There are some survival supplies that you will for sure need. Always, always bring a water bottle, it’s 50x better than the water fountain. People will ask to water fall, so say you have a head cold and they will go away. Headphones in life are becoming a teen everyday need. Make sure you have a great playlist and headphones to jam out. Last and most important…FOOD! Always make sure you have a snack or two, and almost every teacher lets you eat in there classroom.

CHOIR, BAND ,OR ORCHESTRA
~You have to choose one of the options, and trust me I have opinions. I recommend choir because there is no homework or practicing, plus it’s actually pretty fun! Band and orchestra, those are hard to do because you have homework which means dragging your heavy instrument home everyday. Even worse, having to bring it on the bus.

SCHOOL DANCES
~The first school dance can be cool, but after that no one really comes to them anymore. It’s not slow dancing it’s more hip dancing. Make sure to wear shorts a short sleeve shirt and lots of deodorant!

We hope these tip help you become a prepared 6th grader entering Middle School! You’re going to have a great year, so don’t listen too all those weird books about how bad Middle School is. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Summer

My spring fever is kicking into high gear and I have never been more ready for summer! I have many trips and camps planned so I will have a very busy but fun summer!
Right after we get out of school, I will go to a UT basketball camp. I have never been to this camp, but have heard many great things about it, plus I am a huge Longhorns fan. It’s for a week so I should learn some new basketball skills and drills for sure! When that camp is over, my family and I are heading down south to Padre! We only get to go to South Padre about once or twice a year so I am pumped about this trip! It will be two weeks of fun in the sun and surfing! I am so excited for camp and South Padre that I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to wait.
When we get back from South Padre I will have to quickly repack my bag and hop on the plane to Colorado!! I have been going to Colorado since I was three months old and it has never not been a crazy fun adventure. I lived in Pagosa Springs, Colorado during my fourth grade year, and we kept the house so we can come back every chance we get. My favorite thing to do while in Colorado during the summer is to go on four-wheeling trips through the mountains to another town, then ride back on the four-wheelers the next day! I am crazy exited for Colorado 2016!
As you can tell, I won’t be going anywhere crazy exotic, but at least I’ll be out of the Texas heat for awhile. Summer is on its way and I can’t wait to see what it has in store for me!

German Shorthaired Pointer

Her body was narrow
And freckled
And mannerly,
And as she joined the birds
She stopped,
And starred at her catch
And with sneaky paws
And eyes of binoculars
Focused and controlled and ready.
Then out of the tall grass
With that freckled camo skin
Hiding where no pair of eyes can see
Slowly,
Sneakily,
She hunted-For this dog
Narrow, freckled, mannerly,
She attacked, she caught
For this hunter got herself a bird.

Spring, The Sweet Spring

Spring, the sweet spring

By Thomas Nashe 1567–1601 Thomas Nashe

Spring, the sweet spring, is the year’s pleasant king,
Then blooms each thing, then maids dance in a ring,
Cold doth not sting, the pretty birds do sing:
      Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!
The palm and may make country houses gay,
Lambs frisk and play, the shepherds pipe all day,
And we hear aye birds tune this merry lay:
      Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to-witta-woo!
The fields breathe sweet, the daisies kiss our feet,
Young lovers meet, old wives a-sunning sit,
In every street these tunes our ears do greet:
      Cuckoo, jug-jug, pu-we, to witta-woo!
            Spring, the sweet spring!

I chose this wonderful poem because it brings so much joy to spring! It is a simple, easy to understand poem that not only shows what people do during spring, but it also shows what animals do during spring. This poem set a picture into my head so that I can really see what the poem is expressing. It is a fun poem to read and I hope that you will enjoy it as much as I did!!

Best Ski Mountains In Colorado

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, advanced or crazy extreme, there is a place for you! I have to say, Colorado is probably one of the best places to shred on your skis or cruise on your snowboard.

Here are some of my favorite places to ski!!!

Telluride Ski Mountain

Telluride, CO

It is one of the most convenient places to ski because you can hop on the gondola right from town. You won’t have to drive and hour like most ski resorts make you do. The mountain has an amazing terrain park for all levels so you can show off all you tricks!!

Mount Crested Butte

Crested Butte, CO

It has been my favorite ski mountain since I skied there!! It has endless runs so you will never stop exploring and there are two super fun terrain parks!! For you extreme skiers, this is the place to go because there are some super hard but secret runs that will take your breath away.

Spring Break 2016

I’m so tired of school at this point. It’s that time of year where nothing super exciting is happening except for looking forward to a week of fun and relaxation! This year I get to go ski down the slopes at Pagosa Springs, Colorado for two weeks!!!

I have come to Colorado since I was a baby and it never gets old. I’m really excited about skiing because I only get to do it so many times each year. I love coming during Spring Break cause that’s when all the snow has piled up on itself and everything is smooth with no rocks showing on the mountain! I love bump runs, especially because once you get good at it, you just pick a route and jump and turn all the way down the mountain without stopping! My favorite part though is that while I’m in Colorado for Spring Break, it’s also my birthday!

I can’t wait for Spring Break to arrive, but I won’t ever want it to leave! I love waking up knowing that I have a really fun unique day planned and I don’t have to worry about a thing. I love that my birthday is over spring break and I can plan something really fun for it! But getting to go for two weeks this year is really something to look forward to!!

Camp Wyldabeast!

So Valentine’s Day is coming up, a day of XOXOXOXOXO and chocolate! Instead of that, I’ll be at camp Wyldabeast toilet papering the LT cabins!! I’m so excited to go to this two day, overnight camp full of games, singing, dancing, and worshiping God, not to mention pranking the other cabins!

Last year I went to camp Wyldabeast for the first time and loved it!! Lots of my friends come and we play really fun games and there is some really good food!! Every morning and night we would go into a big area and do a Bible study. I learned so much, and I got really close with my counselors! This year though, we are going to do a few pranks on the other cabins. We tried to do one last year, but we got caught and weren’t able to do it again because we left.

I’m kinda sad we have to go on Valentine’s Day though because I’m gonna miss out on some stuff that my family is doing. I’m sure it will be fine because I am so excited!!!! Can’t wait for this weekend and Happy Valentines Day!!

First Two Days In NYC

After waiting in line forever at the airport, we finally got to the point where we go through security. I still have no idea where we are going. For some reason I thought we were going to Canada or Russia but that was not the place. When we had to show the security guard our boarding passes my mom gave me mine and there said our destination. I was so excited to see NEW YORK CITY written on the boarding pass!!!!

We stayed at a famous hotel called the Waldorf! Is was so pretty and right by Times Square. The first night we went to a Broadway musical called Kinky Boots! It was so good and so funny. After it was over, we went to a Stardust Diner where the waiters would climb on top of your booth and sing karaoke songs! They did that to raise money so they could buy singing and dancing classes to try and make Broadway. We didn’t get home till almost 2:00 AM because we were walking through Times Square and people dressed up as Elmo and Mario Brothers kept stopping us and asking us to pay them to take a picture with them. We said no because they were literally grabbing us and they smelled awful!

The second day we did a lot of shopping, and we went to Chinatown where we were served chicken feet WITH THE TOE NAILS STILL ON THEM and many other disgusting creatures. That day was New York’s first snow fall and we were there for it! It was crazy freezing but all worth it! That amazing day was followed by a famous Italian dinner in Italy land and another amazing Broadway show called Wicked!!

The first not even two whole days have been amazing and I can’t wait to tell you about the rest of my birthday trip next week!!!!

Surprise Trip!

Me and my mom called my dad to see where he wanted to go for dinner after my game on Thursday. He said Lupe Tortilla because he has some big surprises for me and my brothers!!

Now, in our family the word “surprises” can mean many different things so I got nervous. Finally he told us that Gunner gets to go with our dad to Haiti!!! I wanted to go again this year so badly, and now he is telling Gunner that he gets to go and I don’t. I got a little frustrated but then he got to my surprise…Your going on a surprise trip!!! All he would tell me is that I’m going on a trip to a cold place with my mom and I won’t be needing a helmet.

Thats it!! I mean, there are so many places in the world that are cold this time of year!! My dad also told me that he has to take away my phone for the night so I won’t get any clues from people I know.

I walked home seeing my packing list on my bed: three nice outfits, three really warm outfits, and jackets. It’s really hard to pack the right stuff with only those instructions. I finally finished packing my bag and I packed my carry-on bag for the plane. I was going on a plane, another one of my clues. “Our diver will he here at 5:00 AM so get up at 4:30,” said my mom. I couldn’t stop thinking about where I would be going tomorrow!!

Our driver Scott showed up right on time. He loaded our bags and told us we could get in the van. I told my dad bye and opened up the van door and looked inside. ARE WE GOING TO HAITI?????? Allie Goldman was sitting in the van with her mom, and I was as shocked as she was! Allie had no idea I was coming, and she also had no idea where we were going. We ended picking up Mckay and her mom then we picked up Aly Duffy and her mom!!! I was so crazy excited for the next few days and I couldn’t wait to figure out where we are going!!!

(next blog post will be on where we went so stay alert!)

The Basketball Team is Doing Great

Everyone is getting hurt. We are loosing a player due to an injury about every week and soon we are not going to be a basketball team anymore!!! Since we are short a few players, when we scrimmage we have to ask some of the guys from their basketball team to come make the teams even. They play really, really aggressive and that led me to breaking my pinkie finger.

At first I thought it was just a jam because I jam my fingers all the time for some reason, but then my pinkie started turning really purple and it was swelling up like crazy!! I ended up at the doctors office with bad news. At least I am now part of the cripples crew!! Sydney has a fractured foot and she is done for the season. Kayla broke her arm ice skating during Christmas break so she won’t be playing basketball anytime soon. Emma has some weird thing going on with her foot but she might be able to play again later. McKay threw the ball at Emily’s nose (accidentally) but she is fine now. Then there’s me, I have the broken finger along with a hurt foot.

Just wanted to tell you that all is going well for our 7th grade basketball team and hopefully we all get better soon!!! Even without a lot of players, we are still winning games and playing great with each other!!!!
