On Monday and Tuesday, the track team was going to district. I was getting pretty nervous about it, because I was in it, and this was the biggest meet of the season!
The first day was the qualifying day for most events. That means that when you race in your event, and you get one of the top eight times out of all the heats, you make it to the finals, which is Tuesday. On Monday though, I was competing in pole vault, which was a one-day thing (no finals). I was super happy, because I won district champion in that, with a vault of 8’6″. That’s a new PR (personal record) for me, and a new school record, knocking the old one down by a foot. I was also competing to get into the finals in the one-hundred, and two-hundred meter dash. In both my heats for those, I placed first, which got me to the finals with the second fastest time for the one-hundred, and the third fastest time for the two-hundred.
On Tuesday, I also competed in long jump, which is a one-day thing too (although, in long jump, they do have a finals, but it’s only three more jumps that you get). In long jump, my run was super off, so I scratched on my first two jumps. To scratch, means that your foot that you are supposed to jump off the board from,(in long jump, you jump off a board) goes over it. On those jumps, they don’t measure. But on my third jump, I did not scratch. Somehow, I made it to the finals, and placed sixth, getting one point for West Ridge. I also placed second and third in the one-hundred, and two-hundred meter dash finals. The three West Ridge girls entered in it, including me, all made it to the two-hundred meter dash finals and placed first, third, and fourth!
This meet was such a great success, because the West Ridge seventh grade girls, managed to rack up enough points to place first in district! That has not happened since two-thousand and two! This was such a great experience, and I will always remember it.
