My friend from across the street came to my house after school bringing the news that we had a partial solar eclipse today.
She had some special glasses which could be used specifically to see a solar eclipse. When you were looking around through the glasses everything except for the sun was completely pitch black. When you were looking at the sun though it was pretty amazing! It looked like something had taken a bite out of the sun! There was also a little other spot which I at first thought was a smudge on her glasses, but turned out to be a spot on the sun, just like Jupiter’s spot.
I thought it was pretty amazing so I decided to research a little more about solar eclipses. Here’s what I found. A solar eclipse is a type of eclipse , where the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, therefore blocking the sun from our view. A partial solar eclipse is where the moon partially blocks the sun, and a total solar eclipse fully blocks the sun. I also found out that solar eclipses can only happen during new moons.
In addition to all of this information I gathered, I also found out that solar eclipses are really cool! Or should I say hot… Did anyone else know there was a solar eclipse today? Did anyone else experience it? Oh, and did I mention they’re out of this world? 😉
