Is Dance a Sport?

on 09/28/2017

I’m a dancer, so OF CORSE I’m gunna say that DANCE IS A SPORT! But is that just me saying stuff, or is there real proof that I am right about dance being a sport? I think there is proof.

here’s a list of reasons why dance is a sport:

– the definition of sport is: an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. This definition describes dance in EVERY WAY. Dance requires physical exertion and skill (it’s not easy to stand on your toes, AND on one leg, AND the other leg in a perfect 90 degree angle, AND turn 3 times, AND do all that at once while making it look easy.), dance is also competitive. (I dance with Synergy Dance Company)

– Dance is not only physically exhausting but it’s also mentally exhausting. Even more, there is the pressure to perform. Then, there is also the pressure to remember your dance sequence and get all the steps right.

This list could go on and on and on, but I think by now, you get the idea. So next time someone brings up the argument about wether dance is or isn’t a sport, you’ve got a a blog RIGHT HERE to resort to! (Also, have a picture of a cute little child in a toto!) 。◕‿‿◕。

I totally agree. I don’t do dance but a lot of my friends do. It requires a lot of skill and exertion like every other sport. It also keeps you flexible which is nice.

Hi Joelle! I totally agree that dance is a sport. People have also every said or referred to my sport, swimming as not being a sport. I know how frustrating that can be. And dance I say is defiantly one of the hardest. I just joined an acro dance. It is super fun! Best of wishes for you and your dancing! You go girl!

Hi, Joelle. I’m a student from http://huzzah.edublog.org in Ms. Smith’s class.

I think dance is a sport because I used to do it as well and I know it takes hard work and practice. I did ballet and tap for 4 years. I know that dance is a sport because you have to work harder to get better at it. It helps build body strength and fitness. I think dancers could be some of the most athletic people in the world.

I was wondering what kind of dance you do?

    Sincerely, Finn

I love this post! It is so true! Just because it isn’t in the Olympics doesn’t mean it isn’t a sport!
