Dogs or Cats?

Dogs or Cats? A question that often come up in our lives. Usually, we have an answer already ready: dogs (cats). But do you really know why you prefer one over the other? Maybe by reading this post, and listening to my reasons for choosing dogs, will make you rethink your decision.

I, myself, prefer dogs. Not that I think there is anything wrong with cats, I just prefer dogs. I don’t really know why I prefer dogs, maybe this post will not only explain to me, but also to y’all.

So, dogs:

Benefts of owning a dog:

  • They are excellent companions.
  • Dogs provide a lot of excersise.
  • They make you social! Dog-walkers meet other dog-walkers and then they start to talk about dogs and BAM you’ve got yourself a new friend.
  • Dogs also provide many medical benefits. Click here to see what they are.

There are many other benefits of owning a dog, to find out more, click this. But for this next list, I’m going to give some negatives of owning a dog.

Negatives:

  • You have to pick up their poop pretty regularly.
  • Most dogs need a lot of attention, so if you’re really busy with work or a job, then getting a dog probably isn’t the best thing.
  • Dogs also require a lot of maintenance, like grooming, and vetinary care.

So that is all of the negatives I could think of for owning a dog. Now that I have thought about it, I still prefer dogs. I realize that I haven’t done cats yet, and that’s coming up next!

Benefits of owning a cat:

  • Cats reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Decreases risk of stroke.
  • Lowers blood pressure.

Now: negatives of owning a cat:

  • Cats have very painful claws.
  • Cats don’t listen and learn to obey commands as well as dogs (usually) do.
  • They shed A LOT!
  • They throw up hairballs (ewwww)!

Now that you have read my lists (and maybe visited a few of the links), you can make your decision! Dogs or cats? The always impending question. For me? It’s still dogs! 😉

The Book Prompt

I couldn’t think of anything to write about for this blog post, so I decided to try out one of the prompts I have found online (click here). The prompt is that you open the book you’re reading to any random page and look at the first sentence on that page, and that’s your prompt. I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling (for the millionth time).

Here’s the prompt: Hermione stopped dead, her jaw hanging; Ron choked a little over his soup.

Hermione stopped dead, her jaw hanging; Ron choked a little over his soup. Dobby had just walked in the room and was wearing what seemed like 30 or more hats.

“Dobby!”, gasped Hermione “you’re the only one that’s been taking my hats?”

“Yes, but only because Dobby is the only one who ever comes into the Gryffindor common room anymore, missus Hermoninny”, Dobby said, looking guilty.

Ron looked over at Harry, trying to hide his grin. Dobby could never get the hang of pronouncing Hermione’s name.

“What do you mean, Dobby? Why won’t the other elves come into the common room anymore?”, asked Harry.

“Because missus Hermoninny has been knitting these lovely hats, and the other elves stopped coming because they didn’t want to pick up any of the hats and be set free.”, Dobby replied.

Harry risked a sideways glance at Hermione and saw that she was looking quite sad. “It’s okay Hermione! At least Dobby likes wearing your hats! Right Dobby?”, Harry turned and grinned at Dobby and and through clenched teeth whispered “just say yes”.

“Dobby likes very much to be wearing these hats missus Hermoninny! They be quite comfy” Dobby said.

Hermione had gotten over her sorrow and now looked simply furious that all her hard work had been wasted on Dobby. Ron, realizing this, quickly said “Dobby, don’t you have some other room to clean?”.

Dobby, looking downcast at this sudden dismissal, murmurred a sorrowful goodbye, and disaparrated.

“Hermione, I know not all of the elves want to wear your hats, but at least Dobby is wearing them!”, Harry said, trying to reassure her.

With a kick under the table from Harry, Ron quickly said “yeah, and I’m sure that he brought some for Winky too!”

Hearing this, Hermione calmed down and reinked her quill and got back to her Potions homework.

Why the Library is Amazing!

I know not everyone loves reading nor does everyone wants to spend all their time in a library, but I do. Hopefully this post will explain why.

The library is amazing because there is an endless expanse of books, endless opportunities, and hours of reading.

Some people think I’m crazy to want to spend all of my time in a library, and I completely agree with them! Some kids like spending all of their time playing video games or sports. Don’t get me wrong! I love to play tennis and basketball, but it’s nothing compared to the thrill of opening a new book.

Every time you open a book, it’s a chance to get lost in the wonders of words. Every book is a faraway land and every chapter, a new adventure. If you’re reading a book you like, every time you turn a page, you should feel a rush of excitement, and even wonderment!

Every page is a new beginning. What happened on the last page is changes with every turn of a crinkled, faded, yellow page. The black ink starts to come alive and play a movie in your head. At least that’s what happens to me!

Some people like hiking, or playing games, or even just watching T.V., but none of those things provide the kind of excitement that a fresh book can give me.

Why I’m Really Excited for My Birthday

Ever had a book or movie series you are absolutely obsessed with? I do, and it is Harry Potter. I have read all of the books and seen all of the movies 4 times, and that’s why my mom decided to take me to Harry Potter World and I’m really excited!

One reason I’m reason I’m really excited to go to Harry Potter World is to go to Hogsmeade. The Harry Potter park is split up into 2 parks: Hogmeade and Diagon Alley. Hogsmeade includes the Dragon Challenge which is a rollercoaster of two different dragons: Chinese Fireball or Hungarian Horntail. Hogsmeade also includes the Flight of the Hippogriff. The Flight of the Hippogriff is also a rollercoaster that is dressed up as a Hippogriff! The main attraction in Hogsmeade is Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The Forbidden Journey is when you get to explore through Hogwarts (School of Witchcraft and Wizardry). Then you get to fly above the castle and meet many magical creatures. The last thing you do before you go to the next park is ride the Hogwarts Express. These are all examples of why I’m really excited to go to Hogsmeade.

The other reason I’m really excited to go to Harry Potter world is Diagon Alley. Diagon Alley includes Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. This is a rollercoaster journey below Gringott Bank. There are also many shops that line the streets that sell things that the shops in the Harry Potter movies sold as well. I’ve been saving up all of my money to buy things from all of the shops! I can’t wait to go to Diagon Alley.

Ever cast a spell? Ever drunk a liquid that makes you happy from the inside out? I get to do all of that n September 2017, and I’m so excited!

Writers Block

I have a couple of pet peeves. I don’t like when someone starts a sentence but never finishes it, I don’t like when someone who has a runny nose sniffles 24/7 (there’s something called a tissue, you know?), but I also don’t like writers block.

When you think you have a good idea, and you start writing and writing and writing. Soon you’re halfway done and then BAM! You have no idea what to say next. Just like right now, I have no idea how I’m going to finish this paragraph. Just kidding! Anyway, you could be writing a great story and you try and try multiple different words and none of them fit just right!

Another example of writers block is when you need to write an entry into your notebook, or even if you need to write a blog post, you just can’t think of an idea! I searched up things to write about and none of the ideas stood out to me. The couple of words I saw multiple times were: writers and block, so I figured: why not write a post about writers block?

Another thing I don’t like about writers block is when you’re looking through writing ideas and you find that a lot of people have written about the same thing. Sometimes when I can’t find an idea to write about I look at my other classmates posts to see if I have any ideas. Today though, almost all of the posts were about the Super Bowl.

I know that the Falcons were up by a lot and blah…blah…blah. Football is not something I enjoy writing about, I’m not saying other people can’t write about it, its just I wish ALL of the posts weren’t about the Super Bowl! I mean come on poeple, give me some inspiration!

So that’s it for writers block. I hope now that I’ve gotten the block out of my system, it will be free flow writing from here on out! Click here to go to a website that actuallly has some good writing ideas!

Waking Up in the Morning

Snore….Snore….Snore. Ahh, so comfortable. Eyes are slowly closing, closing, closing. “JOSIE GET UP” yelled my mom. Ugh, I hate getting up in the morning.

My first reason I hate getting up in the morning is because you’re so comfortable. This morning, I was lying in bed covered in at least 3 furry blankets. I could feel the fur rubbing up against my arms, soft as clouds. My pillow had molded to my head and I couldn’t move, wait no, wouldn’t move. Just then I heard it. The silence. Kind of like the calm before the storm but only, the silence before the yell. There it was: “JOSIE, GET UP NOW!!”. No, I was so comfortable!

Another reason I hate getting up in the morning is that I have to get ready. First you have to get up. In the morning, the distance between the ground and your bed seems like a mile. The once you’ve gotten up and you’re brushing your teeth, it’s like you’ve run a marathon! When your getting dressed and your looking around your room, eyes adjusting the the bright morning light, they eventually land on your bed. Covers thrown back, pillows all astray, sheets bunched up. All you want to do is crawl back into that warm cocoon! But you have to resist the temptation and finish getting ready.

These are the reasons why I’m sort of excited going to bed, but also knowing that I will have to get up in what seems like no time, but sometimes in life you just have to suck it up and do it!

Hidden Figures

Hello everyone! I’m going to be talking about I movie I recently saw on Martin Luther King Day. This movie was called Hidden Figures, and I saw it with my mom.

This movie could be the best movie I have seen in the 2016-17 year! It has a powerful meaning about how women can be as smart as and have the same type of opportunities as men do, if you work hard for them!

Now a little bit about the movie! Don’t worry I won’t spoil anything because I fully expect you to go see this amazing movie! Anyway, this movie is set in 1962 when the main law was “separate but equal” even though we all know that that was not the case.

The movie was supposed to be about how women can have important jobs too, which they can of course, but I’m just saying that it was also about how horrible the segregation was at the time. All throughout the movie there are little clues about segregation, but not enough to distract from the main part of the story, which was three women doing very important work at NASA.

I’m not going to talk about what happens in the movie very much because I don’t want to spoil it. All I’m going to say is that my favorite thing about the movie is that it showed that some people weren’t supporters of segregation. There are a few scenes where some people make very strong statement showing that they’re against segregation.

We have started talking about segregation in school a little bit and it made me realize what about what hidden meaning is in Hidden Figures, (haha, see what I did there? ;). I think this movie is great and everyone should see it! So now stop reading this post and go see it!!

My Basketball Game Against Hudson Bend

I’m writing this post sitting on the dull blue bleachers of the Hudson Bend gym. Right now C team is playing and they are winning 2-0. It just started 3 minutes ago, and we’re winning!

Hudson Bend has beaten all 3 of our teams each time they’ve played us. They played A and B team three times because we played them in the tournament we had this past weekend, but this is the second time for C team.

For us, A team, we lost by a very large amount the first time we played them, but during the tournament we lost by only twelve points! You would think the outlook on this game looks good, but we are missing two star players, Brook and Nitya! Brook hurt her ankle during the tournament and Nitya hurt her knees durting practice only yesterday!

I still believe we could win this game if we all try our best and play well! I hope B team wins even if none of us do. I have to go now too watch the rest of C team game!

The One and Only Rondo

His body was pitch black

And lean,

And soft as clouds,

And as he passed the kitchen table,

He jumped,

And nipped at a leftover dinner,

Warm, but long forgotten.

And I saw the shine of sleek black fur,

And a glint of mischief in his hazel eyes,

And paws gripping the table with all their might,

Then out of the living room,

With that dirty blonde hair,

Came my brother

Angry,

Yelling,

He ran,

That dog

Pitch black, lean, soft as clouds

Part thief, part wild

Part neither, for his stomach was finally full.

Last Summer Part 1.

So I was looking at the responses to my What Should I Write About post, and I got some good ideas! My grandmother suggested I write about the trip I took last summer to Alaska. I decided to write about this, and I’m going to go into full detail, so get some popcorn and get comfortable, cause this is going to be a long one!

It started out with my grandparents telling us about their previous trips to Alaska, (they’ve been 2 other times), and my parents thought it would make a super fun summer trip. All through the school year they mapped out our road trip, and taunted us with perfect visions of catching a one-hundred pound King Salmon.

Finally, school had ended. The wondrous school bell had rung, and we were finally free. The bus ride home was complete chaos! Yelling and standing, all the rules were being broken! When I got home I ran inside and plopped down on the couch to start my summer relaxing. Little did I know that my mom had Alaska packing planned for the whole summer!

We spent the majority of the beginning of summer packing for Alaska, which I was fine with because I wanted it to be perfect. Slowly, bags and bags started piling up in the corner of the house near the door. Slowly, rooms were cleaned and plans were made. Slowly, tickets were printed and and cars were checked. At last, the day had come.

We were cruising down the highway straight to the airport, when I finally realized I was going to Alaska! A place where mountains towered over tiny towns, waterfalls trickled down every nook and cranny of the rolling hillside, a place where untamed animals roamed the even wilder forests. Suddenly we were there. The airport!

The airport stories are a different story all together, so I’ve decided to split this story into parts. Thank you to my grandma for asking me to write about this. I’ll see you next post, bye!
