Writer’s Block

Ah, writers block my old friend enemy. For those of you who don’t know, writer’s block is something that someone (most likely a writer) suffers from when they don’t know what to write about. Today, I am suffering from a case of writer’s block, but not anymore! I’m writing about writer’s block.

I actually have a lot of good ideas for books (mostly fan fictions), but I never have any motivation to write them. That’s my main problem, no motivation. Sometimes though, I really want to write a fan fiction, so I start on the first few chapters but then I just lose all of my motivation to write it.

For example, I was once really motivated to write a FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood fan fiction, and I had even written the first seven chapters (which in total took me around 12-ish hours). Then I moved on to a different fandom and sort of forgot about that fan fiction. Every once in a while I really want to continue writing that fan fiction, but then I think about the fact that I would have to re-write the first seven chapters because of all my grammar mistakes and how I just did a really bad job explaining things (the reader would have gotten bored). Now that I am a better writer than I was at the start of the year, I might start re-writing the chapters and continuing the story.

Let’s just say you’re writing a story that’s not a fan fiction. Well, first I would start out imaging the whole story (or at least what would be the first few chapters). That includes the characters, how you would start the book (what event), or even how the book would end. You might also want to have a goal about how many pages you write per day.

  1. Thanks for the link to a great article!

Even if you don’t revise those seven chapters, you should keep them. You never know if they might yield an idea that can then become a new piece of writing!
