K Spin 13… Why Having Downtime Is Important

Picture I took of my dog, Tydus.

Coming from a family where you are always told to get good grades and study, and being a 7th grader that knows how hard it’s going to be in the future, I think that it’s very important for middle schoolers to schedule personal downtime in their busy schedules.

This isn’t a new concept. In some countries, they take mid-day siestas and close down shops. In this time, they can do whatever they need to do. They could also just relax, and do something that uses absolutely no brain power.

My friends and I are so busy with our out of school activities, while maintaining our grades in school, that we can get overwhelmed. It’s great to take a break every once in a while to reset your state of mind and get rid of stress.

I have downtime after I finish my homework or after my robotics meetings. One of my favorite things to do during my break is draw. It doesn’t require any thinking, and you can just let your hand move. You might be proud of what you make. Other things you can try are watching shows, being with friends, reading a book, taking a nap, and listening to your favorite music.

I find that after a nice break, I’m more alert and focused when I need to start another activity. I think every middle schooler should put personal break times into their weekly schedule.

K Spin 11…The Phantom’s Lair

This is a post for a school project… A description of the Phantom of the Opera’s Lair!

The Phantom’s Lair

The phantom sat in box five of the opera house, gazing at the empty stage that Christine had just sung on that night. He turns and disappears into a long empty hallway which leads to a hidden door. It’s the pathway from the surface into his dreary underground home.

Everything’s the same, dark.

His steps fall heavily on the damp floors, and he is surrounded by darkness. The only sounds he hears is the slow dripping water drops coming from leaky cracks above. He continues moving forward to a mystical underground lake. One boat on the shore waiting to float on the waves. The stench of rotting rat flesh makes the air heavy, but the Phantom is used to that by now. It is his lair after all.

He rides the boat to a small island in the middle of the lake that houses two thrones. Both dusty, one is worn out and the other one particularly old and unused. He takes his place on the worn out throne and looks longingly to his side…

To see where the love of his life refused to sit.

K Spin Nine… My Poem!

Something from Nothing

A Black hole
in the mind,
Trapping all ideas,
with no hope of breaking free.

Pencil,
On paper,
Paralyzed,
Forever not knowing what to write.

What a cruel thing,
This black hole is.
A loss of thought
By the name of writer’s block.

Nothing…

No,

That won’t do…

Scribble, erase.
Scribble, erase.

Wait!

Who would have known?

I think I just finished my poem.

I came up with this idea, while having a severe writer’s block. I was actually 2 days late in the beginning stages of writing a poem, for I hadn’t put a single letter on a page. Then I literally got the idea to start writing about how brain-dead I felt at that moment. When the poem actually started coming together, I thought, “Wow. I wrote half of a decent poem.” And that is how I had the idea for the twist at the end.

I always liked the idea of breaking the 4th wall, so I thought that the twist should be that someone is writing about not being able to write, and by the end, the person realizes that they’ve completed a poem. I also wanted people to get the irony as a reaction from it.

Have you ever felt like you just don’t have enough time in the day? I’ve heard adults say that, but I never thought I’d have to say it as a kid…until now.

This Friday, I have MANY things going on. So much, that I don’t know how i’m going to juggle it all. All I know is that it’s going to be insane.

First, I’m going back to my old elementary school to be a presenter with my robotics team for their STEAM day. Second, I will head back to my current school. Thing about this is that I get to school between 1-1:30pm and that is where the fun starts.

At my school, we are having our fall festival on Friday. I will arrive right on time for the celebration. There’s a cake walk, rides, games, I am pretty sure that there’s even an arcade. Did I mention lots of food and candy? This goes on for the entire rest of the school day, so when school ends, it’s on to the next event.

Starting at 6:30, I go back to my old elementary school, again, for their Halloween party for Girl Scouts. The Monster Mash.

I used to be a Girl Scout, so I know how they work and have been to many before. Now, a group of my friends and I are sponsoring and running one of the games there. I think that will be fun. There’s going to be free food, music, and a bunch of little kids running around in costumes. Adorable!  I’ll be dressed up too!

The party ends at 8:30 to 9:00, and by this point, I will probably be dead with exhaustion. I have to admit though, It’s going to be a very long but fun day!

K Spin Four… What Bus Am I On Again?

This past week, my bus schedule has been crazy!

On Monday, I was informed vaguely that I might have to ride a different bus in a few days. The next day on Tuesday, while waiting for the bus, a down pour of rain drenches me and when my soaked wet body finally gets on the bus, the driver tells everyone on the bus that it was changing routes, but didn’t tell us which bus we were switching to. Yesterday, on Wednesday, I was told at one time that I was riding a different bus, and then I find out that I’m actually riding the same bus! At least for that day. When I got home, my mom FINALLY gets an email that says that I am switching buses, and which bus I am changing to.

Then today, Thursday, I found the bus that I am supposedly riding for the rest of the year, and when I got on… The bus was so crowded!

I miss my old bus. I miss the seat room I used to have and most of all, I miss the time I had on the bus. It was timed just right so I could listen to music and talk with friends.  Now I get less time on the bus, and less room, and there is no AC on the bus.  Whew,  I’m so glad that the week is almost over!  TGIF!  🚌🚌🚌😫

K Spin One… The Dance

I find that with every year I get older, there is something new I discover about myself. This year is no different. Around this time last year, I was looking forward to going to the school ? dance. This year, I find that I had no desire to go to the dance. I ponder over the change…, is it because I no longer want to dance? Nope! I still love dancing. Is it because I have no one to go with? Nope! I have friends going to the dance. so where does this decision come from? Have I changed so much in one year? I do feel older, more responsible and want to concentrate more on school, and my sport. BUT FEAR NOT!!!!  I will make time for fun, hanging with friends and having a good time. So excited to see what this year holds for me in 7th grade.
