7th Grade Overview

Ever since the beginning of this year, I have gone through a roller coaster of emotions. From sad to ecstatic to terrified to just plain old neutral. But one word captures the main feeling I’ve experienced in 7th grade: confused.

“Click! Click! Clop!” The footsteps are whirling around me. “Clack! Click! Click!” The hallways are always a confusing frenzy during passing periods. But that’s not the only thing confusing! The iPads, the quizzes and tests, and sometimes even the homework is baffling! But none of that is nearly as confusing as it was during the beginning of the year. Then, I was a complete mess! Papers flying everywhere, lost schedules here and there, the whole experience was just a dazed swirl of homework and school supplies! But in the end, with the help of a few amazing teachers, I got on track and am still going strong today.

7th grade can be a very scary time, but if you just reach out to someone , I guarantee you’ll be on your way in no time. Oh, and a quick word of advice. NEVER be absent! That’s a whole other world!

Diction & Syntax: Ominous/Horrific – Danger

The crunch of the leaves make me wince every time I put my foot down. With a great drop to the right, a steep incline to the left, and a narrow path in front, I place my steps carefully to ensure my safety. I imagine bright red dots glowing eerily through the black-green mesh of foliage. Even though my brain knows they’re fake, I quicken my pace to a dangerous speed. Faster, faster, FASTER! Without knowing, I break into a sprint while imaginary beasts roar behind me.

The leaves slide below me. I hit my head on the damp ground and go tumbling down the hill. Rolling and rolling and rolling. Down and down and down. Finally, I splash into the creek that seemed so far below. Soaked , nauseous and disoriented, I stumbled up and waded to the bank. Seeing the long hike above me, I yell out for help. After a while, a stranger peeks over and yells back that he would get someone, rushing off until nothing could be heard but his fleeting, crunching footsteps.

A World Without Color

Cherry Pie

Imagine if one day you woke up and everything was black in white. The sky would lose its blue, the trees would lose its green, and the sun would just become a depressing blog of grey. Life as you knew it would crumple into a blur of grey emotionless pictures, taken by your dull, grey brain.

Color has played an important part of our lives ever since the first animal gained the ability to see. From warning reds to soothing blues, colors can help us form an emotion. When you see a red stop light or sign, you become alerted and know to stop or else there could be dangerous consequences. Or if you see a painted picture of the blue ocean waves, you feel calm and feel more relaxed about your surroundings. In Lois Lowery’s The Giver, Lois introduces the thought of living your whole life, from birth to “release”, in complete black and white. The whole atmosphere changes from just that one detail. From being a nice book about dystopian worlds, the book transforms into a serious look at what life would be like in a controlled community, where everyone grows up the same and nothing important happens.

I mean, it’s not like I’m bashing the thought of total colorblindness or socialism, but I just think that there is a lot you are missing. Hey, maybe you could care less for the happiness of color and just want a controlled and equal world, like in The Giver, but my main point in this post is that I think that color IS very important to the people of our modern society and that it would be very detrimental to the community if we were to have a total color purge, so to speak.

Snow is Awwesome…

Believe it or not, there are people out there in the world who have never seen real snow! (Surprising, I know.) And since I’ve lived in Texas my whole life, up until 2013, I was on the same boat as those people.

The days started getting colder and colder until one day, the weather reporter said the fateful words that sent shivers down my spine. There was a high chance of snow that day! The whole day, every time my mind would wonder off to what I would do with the rest of my day if it was true that would snow. Since I was at school at the time, all I could do was wait and see what would happen. Once I came back home. I rushed to the backyard and waited…. After about an hour it happened: little tiny white flakes started falling from the sky and landing softly on the ground!

“This is it, this is it, this is it!!!!! Sis, come ‘ere!!!!” I yelled.

I heard my sister running towards me saying, “I know, I know!!!” In a matter of seconds, I was out the door, decked out in full snow gear ready to make snow balls. Sadly, not much was falling (certainly not enough to make a snowangel) so I scrapped what ever I could off the ground and walls and decks and patio and whatever I could get my hands on, smashed into a ball and put it on to the table. My sister saw what I was doing and followed sport. After a few tweaks and nudges, we had actually made our first mini-snowman! I was so proud of it, I pretty much kept it in my freezer for at least two months!

By the time it was all over and melted, of course I was sad, but also really happy that I could say that I had played in the snow! Sure, maybe it wasn’t three inches thick, but just making those small snowballs and chucking them at my sister was more than enough to make me happy. And that’s all that matters.

Expository: Trees.

A towering creature sways from side to side, showering sunlight around me while I get tangled into a great book. If this scene intrigues you, then you must love trees as much as I do.

But the reason I love trees so much is they’re such a great place to escape from the worries of school, work, or even families. Ever feeling stressed? Just grab a lawn chair, (or if you’re brave enough, sit on the dirt!) plop it under the shade of the leaves, and just hang! Just sit there and do absolutely nothing. Let all the stress from your day just melt away and relax!

Really, without trees I would most definitely explode from all that built up stress! And, if you want, you could join in and sit next to me under the shade and leaves and enjoy the silence.

Coco: The Best Dog EVER!

Sitting on the couch, guarding her spot, is the nicest dog alive. Indefinitely worried eyes, curled, lanky arms, a long, sniffling snout. We named her Coco for a lack of a better name. She loves everyone. Or at least my family.

She has gotten so old that getting mad is just too much work. Black eyes, black nails, black nose. She’s the best thing to ever happen to me. Sure, she whines a lot, but she sticks with me, so I’ll stick with her.

The thing I love the most about her is her cute little eyes that follow me around the room anywhere I go. She is such a good mother to her daughter, Bijou, too. Their little play quarrels are super adorable as well!

But no matter what happens to her, or has, I would never, ever, even for a million bucks, let her go for anything. She just means too much to me.

The Almighty Golden Spaniel!!!!

Now, I know that all of you people know what a Golden Retriever and a Cocker Spaniel are separately, but what if you bred them together? IT BECOMES THE CUTEST LITTLE CREATURE TO ROAM THE EARTH!!!

Ok, most of you guys think I’m over reacting (and I probably am) but seriously, just look up pictures on Google and see how adorable those little munchkins are! I literally want to be smothered in these dogs when I die.

Obviously, it has to be a certain mix of the two to be the cutest; the predominant side has to be golden retriever, unless it looks like a bigger than usual Cocker Spaniel…

The first time I saw this precious animal I almost jumped off the wall because I was so excited that I had found the perfect dog for when I grow up!

Alright, now I’ve got a question for you guys! What is your dream dog and why? Post your responses in the comments below!

P.S.: I found a picture of it, it’s mainly on the Cocker Spaniel side so it’s not really that perfect…
